As a designer of cocktail dresses for over 20 years, I created the close-to-custom system of AriaDress for bridesmaids dresses.  Taking one part of one dress, and mixing it with another, seems to me to accommodate many different body types, heights, and weights, more closely. A dress off-the-rack never fits as well as one made-to-order.
